Cultivation

India is the world’s largest producer of Kabuli Chickpea , Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans are renowned for their delicious nut like taste and high protein content. Chickpeas are legumes of the family, Fabaceae, and they are one of the oldest legumes to be cultivated by humans.

Also Known Better as ‘Kabuli’, which has larger seeds with smooth coat. The Kabuli chickpeas are lighter in color than the ‘Desi’ chickpeas. while the Kabuli variety is grown in India, Mexico, Myanmar Argentina,Canada, USA, Iran, Afghanistan,Southern Europe, Northern Africa and Chile.


Origin

Chickpeas are one of the earliest cultivated vegetables. In Middle East more than 7000 years old remains have been found. Chickpeas (chana) and the split chickpea lentils (chana dal)
