India, United States, and Mexico are the leading producers, with Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, China, Argentina and Australia accounting for most of the remainder origin.

Safflower seed is a minor commercial crop today, with about 800,000 tonnes being produced each year.

OSS is used mainly as cooking oil, in salad dressings, and for the production of margarine.

OSS is flavorless and colorless, and nutritionally similar to sunflower oil.


Origin

Safflower is one of humanity’s oldest crops. dated to the Twelfth dynasty of Egypt.

The plant is believed to be native to the southern Mediterranean region of Europe.

Carthamus tinctorius L, widely accepted as Safflower or false saffron, belongs to the Compositae or Asteraceae family.

Saf flower is known for its flowers, which were traditionally used for coloring and flavoring in the food industry.

Also, Saf flower was cultivated before a large production of cheaper aniline dyes became available for textile-staining dyes

Usage
