Sesame Seed Origin : Was first reclaimed in India, by archeological proof that it was cultivated at Harappa in the Indus Valley between 2250 and 1750 BC.

Sesame Seed Varieties : Sesame is grown mainly for its oil-rich seeds, which come in a variety of colors, from cream-white to charcoal-black. In general, the paler varieties of sesame seem to be more valued in the West and Middle East, while the black varieties are prized in the Far East.

Sesame Seed Usage : The sesame seed is used full in cooking for its rich nutty flavor and also yields oil. The ground and processed seeds can also be used in sweet confections. Sesame seeds are occasionally added to breads and at the tops of hamburger buns.

Sesame Seed Nutrition Value : The seeds known to be quite rich in many mineral contents like iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, and calcium. The seeds are also a good natural source of vitamin B1 and vitamin E. Sesame seeds are known to have phytoestrogens with antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. The antioxidant properties are attributed to its lignans, including unique content of sesamin.
